In Frankreich finden an diesem Wochenende zahlreiche Großdemonstrationen gegen die erstarkten Rechtspopulisten statt. Gewerkschaften, Parteien und Organisationen hatten zwei Wochen vor den Neuwahlen zu dem Protest aufgerufen. Rund 21.000 Polizisten und Gendarmen sind im Einsatz, um Ausschreitungen zu verhindern. Insgesamt werden bis zu 350.000 Teilnehmer erwartet. Die rechtsnationalistische Partei Rassemblement National hatte bei der Europawahl 32 Prozent der Stimmen erhalten und liegt in Umfragen für die Neuwahlen nur knapp darunter. Damit könnte sie die stärkste Kraft im Parlament werden und möglicherweise den Premierminister stellen.

Numerous large demonstrations against the growing right-wing populists are taking place in France this weekend. Trade unions, parties and organizations called for the protest two weeks before the new elections. Around 21,000 police officers and gendarmes are deployed to prevent riots. A total of up to 350,000 participants are expected. The right-wing nationalist party Rassemblement National received 32 percent of the vote in the European elections and is only slightly below that in polls for the new elections.
